Manufacture of JIS SKD11 Tool Steel Metal material

Forging of JIS SKD11 Tool Steel material Metal.

Slowly heat the SKD11 tool steel to 700°C then more quickly heat to 900-1040°C.  After forging cool down in furnace slowly. If the furnace need working. can cool in dry sand.

Heat Treatment of JIS SKD11 Tool Steel Metal material

Annealing of JIS SKD11 Tool Steel material Metal.

Normal SKD11 is supplied in the annealing and machinable condition. for anneal, heat to 900°C slowly. Keep the temperature and soak about three to four hours and follow to cool in the furnace to room temperature.

If the steel must be forged or hardened by the toolmaker, the re-annealing also is necessary. Re-heat to 800-1040°C and keep about three to four hours again. Then cool in the furnace to room temperature.

Stress Relieving of SKD11 material Metal.

If the SKD11 Work piece had be heavily machined, ground or others process. The Stress relieving is very necessary before hardening. So that ensure Minimization of deformability. The specific method is heat the SKD11 Cold Work Tool component to 600-650°C. Soak enough time, Then cool in the furnace or air. The tools should be finish machined before hardening.

Quenching of SKD11 Metal Material Tool.

Pre-heat SKD11 tool steel tool work piece to 750-800°C. and keep enough time until heat thoroughly. Then up to 1000-1040°C for air cooling, or 980°C for oil quenching. Soak thoroughly at the temperature for thirty minutes per 25mm of ruling section, then cool or quench accordingly. It is important not to exceed 1040°C when heating for hardening.

Tempered of Japan JIS SKD11 Tool Steel material.

When need tempered for Tool Steel SKD11, First should be heat to tempering temperature. Then according different demands control the temperature. Get Ideal hardness. soak the JIS SKD11 for at least one hour per 25mm of section.  Below heat treatment data only for reference. Q+t heat treatment is strongly recommended. If need the SKD11 work-piece better cold work performance.

Grind of  JIS G44O4 – SKD11 Tool Steel material.

Consult with the grinding wheel manufacturer to select the correct grinding wheel grade. Make sure that the grinding wheel is in good condition by proper dressing tools. Wet grinding is a better choice, using a large amount of coolant supply. If dry grinding is used, a very soft grinding wheel is used.
